About Us

Sarah Hopkins, M.Ed., RCT, CCC is the owner of Sarah Hopkins Counselling, which offers individual counselling, consulting and vocational assessment. Sarah is a Registered Counselling Therapist with the Nova Scotia College of Counselling Therapists (NSCCT).  Sarah completed her undergraduate degree in Psychology at Saint Mary’s University in 2009 and her Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology from Memorial University of Newfoundland in 2013. She completed her internship at a high school in St. John’s, Newfoundland providing counselling, career advising and assessment to students.  Sarah has nine years of combined experience in the non-profit, public and private sectors.

Sarah’s background and training consists of individual therapy, career counselling, assessment, case management and vocational rehabilitation.  Sarah is a service provider to private agencies and government departments for the delivery of counselling services, including, the Employee and Family Assistance Program (EFAP), a short-term counselling approach to assist individuals with developing coping skills and achieving their health and wellness goals. Sarah has provided career counselling and assessment to post-secondary students as a career counsellor at a local university and through private clinics.  Sarah has training and experience in providing vocational rehabilitation services, including, vocational evaluations, return-to-work-planning and job-search services to adults transitioning back to the workforce following an injury. Sarah has provided consulting services to government agencies, workers’ compensation boards and private agencies. Sarah is trained in the Progressive Goal Attainment Program (PGAP), which addresses intervention techniques for reducing disability associated with a wide range of debilitating health and mental health conditions in addition to pain-related disabilities. Sarah has provided case management services to coordinate care and medical treatment to individuals with complex needs, including, mental health disorders, traumatic brain injury and post-traumatic stress disorder. 

Sarah has specialized training in cognitive behavioural therapy. She utilizes an eclectic treatment approach, drawing from cognitive behavioural therapy and solution-focused interventions. Her treatment approach is aimed at empowering individuals to acquire tools and strategies to improve their mental health and well-being.

Sarah lives in Head of St. Margaret’s Bay with her husband and daughter. She enjoys spending time outdoors with her family and taking day trips throughout Nova Scotia.
