Individual Counselling

Individual counselling services are offered to adults.  Counselling sessions are typically 50 minutes in length. The number of sessions can vary for each individual depending on several factors, including, the complexity of the client’s concerns, the referral source, a client’s coverage and a client’s measure of success in counselling.

Why would I seek Counselling Therapy?

Counselling therapy is a helpful service for individuals who are having difficulty coping on their own and require further support. Stressful events and life transitions are common examples of reasons that lead individuals to seek counselling support. The following client concerns addressed at Sarah Hopkins Counselling include, but not limited to the following areas: Career dissatisfaction; career planning; anxiety; depression and workplace stress.

What can I expect in a Counselling Session?

The therapist and client collaborate to explore a client’s thoughts, feelings and behaviours related to their concerns.  The therapist facilitates the development of session goals, treatment plan and interventions. The therapist uses various “tools” to achieve session goals, including, discussion, written and verbal exercises, worksheets and “homework” tasks assigned to clients for reflection and practice of the skills learned in counselling.

How do I know that counselling is going to help me?

Client engagement and rapport between the therapist and client is pertinent to success.  Communication is key, including, a client’s feelings and/or thoughts about progress in counselling.  The therapist uses tools to measure progress throughout counselling sessions and encourages feedback in order to adapt treatment plans as needed.
